BIOGRAPHY

Soprano Natalie Montakhab studied at the Royal Academy of Music and the RSAMD Opera School.  She is a Britten Pears young artist, a Dewar Arts award winner and enjoyed time as Soprano on the English National Opera Opera Works scheme.

Natalie made her English National Opera debut as The Plaintiff in Trial by Jury and sang Yum Yum in The Mikado on an ENO UK tour.  She worked her way up to debut understudying numerous roles at The London Coliseum; Papagena Die Zauberflöte, Zerlina Don Giovanni, Susanna Le nozze di Figaro, Marzelline Fidelio, Zenna Briggs The Sunken Garden, Karolka Jenufa and many more.  She sang Marzelline under Edward Gardner and the English National Opera orchestra.

At Welsh National Opera, Natalie debuted in the role of Gretel Hänsel und Gretel.  Whilst at Opera School, she sang her first Gretel and her first Susanna.  Most memorably, in Glasgow, she sang Vixen (the English, Pountney production) with Scottish Opera to high acclaim and understudied the role in Czech at Garsington Opera, coached by Lada Valešová.

Natalie enjoyed singing Zerlina Don Giovanni with Saffron Opera in 2023 and was recently back at Welsh National Opera, understudying the role of Alice in Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. She has understudied many roles at WNO, including Pamina Die Zauberflöte, Zerlina Don Giovanni and Jemmy Guillaume Tell.

Other roles Natalie has sung recently include Adina L'Elisir d'amore, Musetta La Boheme, Cleopatra Giulio Cesare, Galatea Acis & Galatea, Aminte Aminte e Filide and Pulcheria Riccardo Primo. 

Natalie is an established Oratorio soloist, with recent appearances including The Messiah at Worcester Cathedral and Rossini's Stabat Mater in Firenze.

Conductors she has worked with include Sir Mark Elder, Edward Gardner, Lothar Koenigs, Martin Fitzpatrick, Stéphane Denève, Ilan Volkov, Frederick Brown, Christian Curnyn, Laurence Cummings, and Masaaki Suzuki.
